Q1.    How can I edit things easier and what is FastEdit?

FastEdit is a quicker to edit your information without pushing the EDIT button all the time. Using this feature will make it quicker to edit but it will disable features like "Phone Call" and "Email Patient" features.

Q2.  Is this HIPAA compliant?

The short answer is YES since the iPhone does do SSL email encryption.

The long answer:  There have been a number of security incidents related to the use of laptops, other portable and/or mobile devices and external hardware that store, contain or are used to access Electronic Protected Health Information (EPHI) under the responsibility of a HIPAA covered entity.

The first question to ask is: Is the iPhone HIPAA compliant.  In the end, HIPPA security requirements are set your your hospital and every clinic or hospital has different levels of security.  As a result, you should always check with your IT department if you are concerned. Generally, if you are allowed to have an iPhone at your clinic or hospital and you can check your work email;  it's likely that you are fine.

Overall, there is a minimum amount of security that must occur to be HIPAA compliant as an application.  This minimum security is that if you send email; it must be encrypted.  Fortunately the iPhone configures itself with an SSL/TLS security option which is acceptable as an encryption standard.

While you have the option to use secure or insecure connections for each of these protocols, the iPhone configures itself for a secure connection by default — you actually have to do extra work to disable the SSL/TLS security options.  This is notable, especially since it is common to be checking your email in an untrusted wireless hotspot where use of SSL (or a VPN) is essential.

Furthermore, we have tested the iPhone’s email program and Safari web browser and found that they will use AES 128-bit encryption when making SSL connections to email servers and web sites.  This is not the absolute best encryption in general use (that would be 256-bit AES), but it does use the excellent AES technique with key lengths that provide very good security.

Q3.   How do I change the default template?

In order to make changes to the default template; you need to set the default template by press on the template button.  By editing this template and saving it; all future edits will use this template.
